CLIENT // El Paso Electric PROJECT // SONET Fiber Optic Upgrade

Challenge: Upgrade the existing telecommunications network to ensure reliability and to accommodate future growth of the electric system.  Add 60 miles of underground and overhead fiber optic cable to extend the existing 120 miles of network. Maintain existing system operation and reliability at all times.

Solution: Crestino planned, designed, implemented and managed a new network installation, to include a parallel network and a fully redundant core ring.  Ensured 100% reliability with zero outages meeting the Utility’s 24/7 on-line requirements.

Result: The Utility’s previous OC-3 ring and OC-12 ring were replaced with one Core OC-192 SONET fully redundant ring, with 6 smaller OC-12 SONET rings. To complete the data network, a 10 Gbps Ethernet Core ring was built within a DWDM platform, allowing for multiple 10 Gbps networks to run on the same fibers.  Approximately, sixty other locations were integrated into the new network using CWDM and 1 Gbps links. The project was completed under budget and on-time using effective project and resource planning.
